Yep.We did something very un-Vanilla,yesterday.The impetous being, friends from West-by God-Virginia were visiting Florida and staying on St.Pete Beach.
Hey,we're adults.We can go out on a week night.We don't have a curfew-we'll make our own curfew,thank you very much.We're allowed.
So,we got in the Tacoma, fought rush-hour traffic through downtown Tampa,to meet up with an old friend(and meet a new one),have dinner, and watch the most glorious sunset!

Arriving on Pass-A-Grille,the first thing you see is the "Wedding-Cake Hotel",also known as
The Don Ceasar.Or just
The Don,as locals call it.
Turn left at
The Don,drive down Gulf Boulevard a ways, until you find a street(any street) that takes you over to Gulf Way,turn left, and just enjoy the drive........
We just love Pass-A-Grille.It really is a quaint, little beach town.No condos.Just mom and pop motels, and cute beach houses.

I so want this chair!!!!

At the end of Gulf Way was our destination.
The Hurricane! By the way, they have free parking behind the restaurant.(wink-wink at Kim and Connie.....). If you go,be sure to get the Crab-Stuffed Flounder with Lobster Sauce.Words can not describe how delicious it is.
From the third floor deck, there is the most incredible view of the Gulf of Mexico.

And the sunsets are breath taking!

Alas, the evening ended all too soon. They had to return to their hotel to get ready to leave, today, and we just kinda-sorta had to return to the real world. There was a moment when we thought about getting a room at one of the 50's Style motels(the kind with the old, rusty, metal rocking-style lawn chairs outside your room),and spending the night. But we are Vanilla, after all,so we dutifully drove back home.
Sometimes, though, you just gotta step outta the box!

Florida does have some of the most amazing sunsets. Great dinner experience. Oh, the traffic though would have drove me nuts. Good for you for straying away from the Vanilla life.
Boy, you guys are a lot of fun!! I wish I lived down there! I'm seriously in need of some "out of the box" time, preferably also on "island time"!!
In the meantime - "biding my time" until October when I can return to Sanibel for a week - we just hang by the pool, grillin' and chillin', and popping a cork on a chilled bottle of wine!!
Gayle-the traffic was worth it.You hafta get down here,NOW!!!
LBSC-the hangin' by the pool works for me.Even tho we live so close to the beach,we don't get there near often as we should.
You're crafty, make one of those damn chairs! :-)
Oh would you look at that glorious pink beauty!
Vanilla...my A$$.
Looks like FUN with a capital F!!!
Doesn't look very Vanilla to me, Chris/Jon. WOW--what a gorgeous place. And that sunset is to die for!!!!!
I'll remember the Hurricane and the Crab-stuffed Flounder... Sounds like something we would love.
Hugs,
Betsy
Linda-it was fun!!Good food,great friends,beautiful sunset,what more can you ask for?
Betsy-the Flounder Stuffed w/ Crab was to die for.
Chris: I have always enjoyed the sunsets when in the Tampa area. You certainly captured a beauty.
Wow, I don't even know where to start here!
All of your sunset photos on your front page are amazing!
I live a pretty vanilla life too these days and I love it - just living a quiet life down the street from the beach and not too far from you either!
That cool chair would make a great contribution for my new Color Carnival photo meme (just had to slide that in ;-)
Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!
It looks as if you picked a wonderful place to get out of the box. The view from restaurant is gorgeous and your photo of the sunset is absolutely fantastic. The Stuffed Flounder sounds scrumptious.
Wow! What beautiful scenery!
