We've being
fussing over our Black Swallowtail butterfly caterpillars, and then their Chrysallis, for a few weeks now.Once the chrysallis had formed we knew it would be approximately a week until they started emerging.
This morning while sitting on the patio, enjoying our morning coffee and reading the paper,it happened!
The first to leave home..........

In all of these photos you see notice the second chrysallis still developing. The third is on another plant.

It's difficult work,drying a new baby off.........
Come on,you can do it!

And take off he(we
think it's a male-we could not get a good shot of the wings open)did.
In our excitement of watching it take flight for the first time,we neglected to take a picture,or to notice the emergence of a Gulf Fritillary, that we weren't even aware of......
Addendum-The final two chrysallis emerged this morning.you can read about it
here............

That's so exciting! What a pretty new butterfly.
I've never seen a butterfly that color before. How wonderful to get to see them emerge and fly. Would love to do that with my kids too. Thanks for the great shots!
